How to Use ApplyCH: A Beginner's Guide
What Is ApplyCH?
ApplyCH is a free Chrome extension that helps you manage your job search in Switzerland. It works right inside your browser -- you save jobs from any website with one click, and ApplyCH keeps track of everything for you. If you need to fill out the RAV proof-of-effort form each month, ApplyCH can do that automatically too.
You do not need any technical knowledge to use it. If you can browse the internet, you can use ApplyCH.
Step 1: Install the Extension
Getting started takes less than a minute:
- Open Google Chrome on your computer.
- Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for ApplyCH.
- Click the blue "Add to Chrome" button.
- A small pop-up will ask you to confirm. Click "Add extension".
- You will see a small ApplyCH icon appear in the top-right corner of your browser. If you do not see it, click the puzzle piece icon and then click the pin icon next to ApplyCH to keep it visible.
That is it. ApplyCH is now installed and ready to use.
Step 2: Save Your First Job
This is where ApplyCH shines. You can save a job from any job website -- LinkedIn, jobs.ch, Indeed, or even a company's own career page.
- Visit any job posting page. For example, go to jobs.ch and open a job that interests you.
- You will notice a floating blue button appear at the bottom of the page. This is the ApplyCH "Save Job" button.
- Click the button.
- ApplyCH uses AI to read the page and extract all the important details -- the job title, company name, location, and description. You do not need to copy and paste anything.
- After a moment, you will see a success message. The job has been saved to your list.
Good to know: Free users can save up to 10 jobs per month (the count resets on the 5th, in step with the RAV reporting cycle). Pro gives you unlimited saves.
Step 3: See Your Saved Jobs
Now let us look at what you have saved:
- Click the ApplyCH icon in the top-right corner of your browser.
- The extension popup opens. You will see your dashboard with a summary of your saved jobs.
- Click on any job to see the full details -- the title, company, location, and the complete description that was extracted.
- You can update the status of each job. For example, mark it as "Applied" after you send your application, or "Interview" when you get invited.
Your job list stays organised and up-to-date, so you always know where you stand.
Step 4: Generate a Cover Letter
Writing a cover letter for every application is exhausting. ApplyCH can generate a tailored cover letter for you in seconds, using your profile and the job description.
- Open a saved job from your list.
- Click the "Cover Letter" button.
- Choose the language you want -- German, French, Italian, or English.
- If you like, add a short note in the custom instructions field. For example: "Mention my experience in project management" or "Keep it short."
- Click "Generate".
- In a few seconds, your cover letter appears. It uses proper Swiss business letter conventions for the language you chose.
- Click "Copy" to copy the letter to your clipboard, then paste it into your email or application form.
Do not worry -- you can always click "Regenerate" if you want a different version.
Note: AI generation is included in the free plan: every month you get 2 full generations and 2 previews, shared between cover letters and tailored CVs, and regenerating a document you already created is free. Pro raises this to 100 AI generations per month.
Step 5: Tailor Your CV
A generic CV rarely stands out. ApplyCH can reorder and adjust your CV content to match each specific job.
- First, make sure your profile is complete. Click the ApplyCH icon, go to the You tab, and fill in your work experience, education, and skills. You can also upload an existing CV as a PDF and let the AI extract everything for you.
- Open a saved job and click the "Tailor CV" button.
- Choose a template from the gallery -- there are several professional designs to pick from.
- Customise the colours and fonts if you like, or leave the defaults.
- Click "Generate". ApplyCH will reorder your skills and experience to highlight what matters most for this specific job.
- Download the result or copy the content.
The AI detects the language of the job posting and writes your tailored CV in the same language.
Step 6: Fill Your RAV Form Automatically (Free)
If you are registered with the RAV (regional employment office), you know the monthly proof-of-effort form on job-room.ch can be tedious. ApplyCH fills it out for you using the jobs you have already saved.
- Make sure you have saved at least one job in ApplyCH and marked it as "Applied".
- Go to job-room.ch and navigate to the proof-of-effort form (Nachweis der Arbeitsbemühungen).
- Click the ApplyCH icon and select "Auto-fill RAV Form".
- ApplyCH will automatically fill in the company name, address, job title, application date, and method for each job you have marked as applied.
- Review the filled form to make sure everything looks correct, then submit it as usual.
This feature is completely free -- no Pro subscription needed. It saves you from manually copying dozens of application details every month.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of ApplyCH
Here are a few simple habits that will make your job search smoother:
- Keep your profile complete. The more information ApplyCH has about your experience and skills, the better your AI-generated cover letters and tailored CVs will be.
- Save jobs as you browse. Whenever you see an interesting job, click the save button right away. You can always come back to it later.
- Use all four languages. Switzerland is multilingual, and so is ApplyCH. You can generate cover letters in German, French, Italian, or English -- even if the job posting is in a different language.
- Update your application status. After you apply, mark the job as "Applied." This keeps your list clean and makes RAV form filling much easier.
- Use your free AI generations. Every month you can create 2 full cover letters or tailored CVs, plus 2 previews, at no cost. If you apply to many jobs, Pro gives you 100 AI generations a month and unlimited saves -- you can upgrade from the You tab in the extension.
